Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

What is Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)?

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. It involves ongoing psychological and emotional distress, such as intrusive memories or flashbacks, heightened anxiety or alertness, avoidance of reminders of the trauma, and changes in mood or thinking. Rather than fading with time, these reactions persist and can significantly interfere with daily functioning, relationships, and a person’s sense of safety or control.
