Christian Counseling in Charlotte

In Caring For People God’s Way, Tim Clinton defines Christian Counseling as a Triassic healing encounter with the living Christ, facilitated by a helper who assists this redemptive, healing process, helping another get unstuck and moving forward on the path to spiritual maturity and psycho-social-emotional health.

In his book, Care of Souls, Benner describes Jesus as our example of soul care. Jesus demonstrated soul care through meeting people where they were, being compassionate, inviting choice, asking probing questions, affirming faith responses, affirming people’s value, etc. Additionally, Benner includes four elements in soul care – healing, sustaining, reconciling, and guiding. Healing involves efforts to help others overcome hurt and move toward health. Sustaining pertains to acts of caring designed to help a hurting person endure and move beyond a circumstance, moving toward restoration, recovery or healing. Reconciling refers to efforts to reestablish broken relationships. And, guiding means to help people make wise choices and ultimately grow spiritually.

When a client is interested in integrating their faith into their therapy, our professional counselors act as a “helper” in the “redemptive, healing process” and serve to care for the soul through healing, sustaining, reconciling, and guiding.
